Andrea De Benedetto studied Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London where he was immediately in the spotlight due to his interest in experimenting with new materials. After having worked for a few years at Ross Lovergrove as a Project Manager, he decided to return to Italy, to Bolzano, where he became a researcher and teaches technology and production systems at the Free University of Bolzano.
Following the teachings of Ron Arad, his professor at the Royal College of Art, he describes himself as a bullet proof nail that unites “the nail’s resistance with the fragility of glass”. A provocation, an oxymoron, an object that signifies contradiction but also the capacity of new materials to turn a paradigm upside down.
A curious designer, he is fascinated by the lines that surround him without feeling restricted by defined and finite forms which is what distinguisheshim from others. His uniqueness can be seen in his careful research for materials and the desire to experiment that accompanies each of his creative endeavors.
He loves straight lines but cannot appreciate them without curves, is fascinated by the delicate perfection of a musical instrument but also by the rigid mechanisms of a bicycle. Within him there are three souls, he unites German technology and the reserved English manner with Italian blood and passion.
Today he strives endlessly for free expression that along with his interest in materials makes his work stand out.
